Gift-Exchange Game
Due to the slow-economy, my husband’s family agreed that instead of spending too much money exchanging gifts with each person, that we would play a gift-exchange game.
I’d heard about and played this game before (not sure of the name of it), and it can be a ton of fun!
Rules:
Each person 18 and over purchases a unisex gift(s) at a set amount. We agreed on $5 maximum. I know that doesn’t sound like much, but there are so many items you can purchase for $5 or less. It does take some time to find these items, but it is possible.
After placing all of the wrapped gifts (no names), you then draw numbers.
Player #1 begins by choosing any gift and opens it.
Player #2 can either steal #1 gift or choose their own un-opened gift.
Player #3 can steal from #2 or choose a wrapped one. This continues until everyone has opened a gift.
Because #1 did not get to steal, he (she) can at this time choose a gift from anyone.
We played this game Saturday during my in-laws annual Christmas party, and it was a lot of fun! Personally, I enjoyed hunting down the perfect $5 gifts. I found a calendar, a box of caramel popcorn, a pack of Kit-Kats, a bag of trail mix and a candle. The gift I opened? It was an assortment of kitchen gadgets: 2 different sets of tongs, a set of utensils, a set of strainers, and a pair of kitchen scissors….items I can actually use, imagine that!
If your family enjoys playing games, why not try a similar one….have some fun while saving money!
